Biography

Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Choo Chung Siung is Director of the Centre for Innovative Society (CIS) at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. CIS brings researchers, government agencies, industry and community groups together on resilience, heritage, public health and social inclusion in Sarawak. He leads CIS work on drug prevention with state agencies, digital twins for heritage buildings, environmental stewardship, and prediction of landslide and ground risks.

A Kuching native, he has lived and worked in Australia and Singapore. His research applies data and machine learning to decisions on urban infrastructure and peatland development, aligned with PCDS 2030 and the SDGs. He is an expert reviewer for IPCC special reports, Secretary General of the Malaysian Geotechnical Society, and Malaysia's nominated member on the ISSMGE technical committee for machine learning.

He has moderated panel discussions for government, industry and academic audiences, including "Greener Cities by Design: From Circular Systems to Climate Resilience" at IDECS 2025 and the ASEAN Australian Engineering Congress 2022 webinar series. Most recently, on 4 October 2026, he moderated a session for the For Women Leadership Foundation.
